2 Und6430 die Philister6430 hingen sich1692 an Saul7586 und seine Söhne1121 und schlugen5221 Jonathan3083 und Abinadab41 und Malchisua4444, die Söhne1121 Sauls7586.

3 Und der Streit4421 ward3513 hart wider Saul7586, und die Schützen3384 trafen3384 auf ihn mit Bogen7198; und ward4672 sehr3966 verwundet von den Schützen7198.

4 Da sprach559 Saul7586 zu seinem Waffenträger3627: Zeuch dein Schwert8025 aus und erstich1856 mich damit, daß nicht5375 diese Unbeschnittenen6189 kommen935 und mich erstechen und treiben einen Spott aus mir. Aber5953 sein Waffenträger3627 wollte14 nicht5375; denn er fürchtete3372 sich5307 sehr3966. Da nahm3947 Saul7586 das Schwert2719 und fiel drein.

5 Da nun sein4191 Waffenträger5375 sah7200, daß Saul7586 tot war, fiel5307 er auch in sein Schwert2719 und starb4191 mit ihm.

6 Also starb4191 Saul7586 und seine drei7969 Söhne1121 und sein Waffenträger3627 und alle seine Männer582 zugleich3162 auf5375 diesen Tag3117.

7 Da aber die3427 Männer582 Israels3478, die jenseit5676 des Grundes6010 und jenseit5676 des Jordans3383 waren4191, sahen7200, daß die Männer582 Israels3478 geflohen5127 waren935, und daß Saul7586 und seine Söhne1121 tot waren, verließen sie5800 die Städte5892 und flohen5127 auch; so kamen die Philister6430 und wohneten drinnen.

8 Des andern Tages4283 kamen935 die Philister6430, die Erschlagenen2491 auszuziehen6584, und fanden4672 Saul7586 und seine drei7969 Söhne1121 liegen5307 auf dem Gebirge2022 Gilboa1533.

9 Und hieben ihm sein Haupt7218 ab3772 und zogen6584 ihm seine Waffen3627 ab und sandten7971 sie in der Philister6430 Land776 umher5439, zu verkündigen1319 im Hause1004 ihrer Götzen6091 und unter dem Volk5971.

10 Und legten7760 seinen Harnisch3627 in das Haus1004 Astharoths, aber seinen Leichnam1472 hingen sie8628 auf die Mauer2346 zu Bethsan.

12 machten sie sich auf6965, was streitbare2428 Männer waren935, und376 gingen3212 die ganze Nacht3915 und nahmen3947 die Leichname1472 Sauls7586 und seiner Söhne1121 von der Mauer2346 Bethsans und brachten sie gen Jabes3003 und verbrannten8313 sie daselbst.

13 Und nahmen3947 ihre Gebeine6106 und begruben6912 sie unter dem Baum815 zu Jabes3003; und fasteten6684 sieben7651 Tage3117.

Chapter 31

1 NOW the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and many fell dead on mount Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan and Jeshui and Melchishua, Saul's sons.

3 And the battle was intense against Saul, and the archers overtook him with bows, and he was exceedingly afraid of the archers.

4 Then Saul said to his armorbearer, Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and slay me and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was exceedingly afraid. Thereupon Saul took his sword and fell upon it.

5 And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

6 So Saul died, and his three sons and his armorbearer and also all his servants, that same day together.

7 And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley of the Jordan saw that the men of Israel fled and that Saul and his sons were slain, they abandoned the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 And on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

9 And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent messengers to publish the news in the land of the Philistines and among the people and in the house of their idols.

10 And they put his armor in the house of Ashtaroth; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-jashan.

11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul and to his sons,

12 All the valiant men arose and marched all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-jashan, and brought them to Jabesh and burnt them there.

13 And they took their bones and buried them under the almond tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
